“We are not human beings having a spiritual experience. We are spiritual beings having a human experience.”
One of the Christmas gifts I received this year is a wall plaque in a Celtic design with the words of Pierre Teilhard de Chardin on the reverse. I had not heard of this interesting person. Turns out, he was a French philosopher, Jesuit Priest, palaeontologist and geologist, born 1881 and died 1955.
You just read one of his quotes above, one of my favourites. Here is a quote of his about ‘Love’ from the back of my Celtic plaque:-
“Through union with another I find myself,
As I find myself, I rejoice by ever closer union with the other.
Love alone is capable of uniting living beings
In such a way as to complete and fulfil them,
For it takes them and joins them
By what is deepest in themselves.
Love leads us, one through the other,
To a higher consciousness,
To a deeper possession of our being.
By the love of one person for another,
A thread is woven that stretches to the heart of the world.”
